The Peabody Essex Museum (PEM), one of the largest and most dynamic art museums in the nation, is seeking an Individual Giving Officer. For over 220 years, PEM has been an anchor in the community, serving as a gathering place where anyone can learn, derive inspiration, and gain a deeper appreciation for shared human experiences from around the globe and through time.
Under the supervision of the Director of Membership and Individual Giving, the Individual Giving Officer is an active front-line fundraiser responsible for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individual donors through personal, relationship-based engagement. The Officer manages a portfolio of high-level members, PEM Fund donors, and select individual, leadership, and major gift prospects, serving as a critical connector between annual, mid-level, and major giving.
This role focuses on one-to-one donor engagement, managing relationships through in-person, virtual, and phone meetings, and supporting the Museum’s ambitious operating and campaign goals. Working closely with curators, senior Museum leadership, high-level volunteers, and Development colleagues, the Individual Giving Officer identifies, qualifies, and advances donors through the giving pipeline using individualized strategies aligned with donor interests and institutional priorities. This Officer will also manage key projects and initiatives as assigned, including but not limited to being a liaison for a Visiting Committee, volunteer management, collateral development, stewardship and cultivation of high-level membership & PEM Fund fulfillment.
PEM is looking for candidates who have experience in identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individual prospects toward the goal of securing philanthropic support across membership and EIMA (leadership donors) and growing the PEM Fund. This role will also develop and implement acquisition strategies for increased dollar and donor growth in the giving pyramid while working closely with the Director in the development and implementation of donor appeals and marketing collateral and benefits on an engaging program for membership, cultivation and stewardship. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in a related field along with 5 or more years of experience in philanthropy with a proven record of gift closing success and relationship building along with exceptional experience in identifying and soliciting philanthropic support from high net worth individuals. The candidate must also be able to operate with individual initiative and creativity and be successful in adapting to diverse personalities and individuals with respect, integrity, and collegiality. Project management skills and planned giving experience is a plus. Proficiency in Google Workspace, Microsoft Office and other web-hosted services coupled with exemplary interpersonal, oral, written and presentation and skills. This position is a full time role and the hiring range for this role is $67,525 to $71,746 commensurate with experience.
